Education & Outreach
Humane education teaches children how to be responsible citizens. From teaching children how to care for family pets, protect wildlife and preserve the environment, students learn how to be respectful toward the Galapagos Islands and compassionate toward all animals who call it home.
Most of the problems facing pets and wildlife in Galapagos arise from a lack of understanding of animals and the consequences of this failure to understand. Homelessness, neglect, and pet overpopulation are often a result of ignorance.
Outreach
GPS is working on a public outreach campaign to encourage adoption of street dogs and cats rather than purchase of purebred animals illegally smuggled from the mainland.
We are also working with ship owner’s to stop the illegal smuggling of animals into Galapagos aboard cargo ships, as well as business owner’s to support animal-free cargo ships.

Imagine a place where hundreds of iguanas lay on rocks in the sun, sea lions slumber on the beach, birds nest on the ground and giant tortoises bathe in muddy pools. In the Galapagos Islands, this is not a stretch of the imagination, however, all of these animals are threatened by the thousands of street dogs and cats living in Galapagos.
